Ignatius forgot to say that he found my writing turgid. One is quick to note the utter indefensibility of the claim that Derrida "can only make less sense" than I (wonderful symmetry between that and the "cannot comment"), evidence that brevity itself is no measure of either intellectual validity or rhetorical power, except perhaps to show how short the path to fatal contradiction can run.

I have never read anything by Derrida. I cannot comment on him or his writings.

But wading thru the incredibly convoluted and torturous prose of this letter has made me realize that, if you are one of his defendants, he can only make less sense than you do.
